Commemorating International Development Week

Why this matters

Climate change poses severe risks to ecosystems, communities and livelihoods across Sub-Saharan Africa, impacting food security, water resources, and economic stability. The Expert Deployment Mechanism – Climate Action Africa (CAA), a key initiative funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by Alinea International, Econoler, and WSP in Canada, is calling on climate action technical experts to support systemic and pioneering efforts in Sub-Saharan Africa. CAA mobilizes expertise to implement impactful, sustainable climate solutions in mitigation and adaptation to climate change, reinforcing also the ability of women and climate vulnerable groups to substantially participate in solutions to climate change.

CAA Pillars

Our efforts are geared towards addressing the salient elements of climate action:

  • Climate Mitigation CAA supports short term technical assistance efforts geared at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing carbon sinks, essential to slowing global warming and minimizing its long-term impacts.
  • Climate Change Adaptation CAA deploys technical expertise in the agricultural and in water resources management seeking to improve capacities, address vulnerabilities and build resilience for communities and ecosystems.
  • Women’s Empowerment CAA focuses on creating opportunities for women, including smallholder farmers, pastoralists, fishers, Indigenous women, youth and women living with disabilities, to be active participants and leaders in driving decisions that lead to effective climate action.
  • Climate Governance CAA seeks to strengthen capacities and buttress institutional transparency and accountability towards attainment of the Nationally Determined Contributions and achievement of the Paris Agreement.

Who We’re Looking For

We seek Canadian climate action professionals with expertise in areas such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, water management, and climate policy.  Each initiative involves in-country deployment, with face-to-face activities and travel to the region required. All deployments will adhere to Canadian travel advisories, National Joint Council Directives, and Government of Canada Procurement Guidelines. International Experts and Organizations are welcome to submit proposals. However, preference is given to Canadian Experts and those experts with a presence in Canada.
