EDM-CAA Webinar Series: “Stronger Governance, Resilience & Inclusion”
Climate Action Africa through its consortium of partners, Alinea, Econoler and WSP is excited to introduce a new Webinar Series called: Stronger Governance, Resilience, and Inclusion. As climate change uproots lives and changes the way we exist in the world, this Global Affairs Canada (GAC) Expert Deployment Mechanism – Climate Action Africa (EDM-CAA) confronts the challenges by mobilizing experts to create innovative solutions. EDM-CAA spans 34 countries, implementing 43 projects across the pillars of climate governance, mitigation/forestry, renewable energy, water, women’s leadership, and fostering south-south cooperation.
EDM-CAA has many great stories and results to share! – Follow our webinar series to learn more!
Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for less than 7% of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet it is one of the most climate-vulnerable regions in the world. The region is highly dependent on climate sensitive sectors: Over 95% of agricultural production is rain-fed. This supports between 70 – 80% of employment in the region, contributing to 30% of GDP and at least 40% of exports. Changes in rainfall patterns, droughts, floods and extreme weather events severely affect crop yields, food security and rural income. Countries in the Sahel and Horn of Africa, for example, face chronic water stress, leading to crop failures, livestock deaths, and human displacement. Many countries in the region often lack institutions, infrastructure, technology and finance to effectively respond to climate impacts.
EDM-CAA aims to assist countries in increasing their ambition and meeting their obligations as Parties to the 2015 Paris Agreement and related United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change commitments. Through this Webinar Series EDM-CAA will present lessons learned and results from selected Technical Assistance Initiatives.
Each session will highlight practical experiences, stories of change, knowledge and lessons learned and improve understanding of how these results can benefit other GAC international development programs in Africa and elsewhere. The series will include four 90-minute sessions according to EDM-CAA’s climate action pillars and will conclude with a cross-cutting session in occasion of Canada’s International Development Week in February 2026.
Mark your calendars for the upcoming sessions or click on this Zoom registration link to register for all four (4) or an individual session:
- Climate Governance – October 29th, 2025
- Climate Mitigation and Adaptation – November 26th, 2025
- Women´s Empowerment – January 14th, 2026
- Cross-pillar Webinar – February 4, 2026
Hear directly from key actors in three CAA projects in each session, with experts and partner organizations providing first-hand testimonials about their experiences, benefits and particularly in-country impacts resulting from quality technical assistance. Initiative leads will share knowledge on how the projects strengthen climate governance, resilience, and improve women’s participation in Africa. Opportunities to engage in discussions that connect policy and practice to improve programming for the future.

About Expert Deployment Mechanism – Climate Action Africa (EDM-CAA)
This Global Affairs Canada project contributes to a five-year Expert Deployment Mechanism for Climate Action in Africa to support official development assistance-eligible countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to address the causes and effects of climate change, including measures that increase women’s capabilities to act as agents of change.
Implemented by the consortium formed by Alinea International, Econoler and WSP in Canada, it enables the flexible and timely deployment of qualified experts, primarily Canadians, from government, civil society, academia, and private sector, in response to requests from African governments at all levels, as well as non-governmental entities. Project activities include: (1) improving climate change governance capacity; (2) improving climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives; and (3) enhancing women’s participation and leadership in climate action. Deployments are short-term and support one of the three areas, depending on each partner’s request.
