The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources (MECCNAR) leads Gambia’s environmental protection efforts, supported by the Department of Forestry, Department of Parks and Wildlife, and National Environment Agency. MECCNAR coordinates with Civil Society Organizations and development partners to develop and implement policies for environment, climate change, and natural resources management. As outlined in the National Development Plan, environmental safeguards are critical enablers for sustainable development, making MECCNAR’s work a key national priority in protecting and managing the country’s natural resources.
