Climate Action in Africa mobilizes Canadian expertise to help Sub-Saharan Africa countries increase their ambition and meet their obligations as Parties to the 2015 Paris Agreement and related United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change commitments.
Canada's Commitment
Canada commits to contribute to the global effort underway to protect our shared future, helping the most vulnerable communities adapt to climate change, supporting reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and facilitating the transition to a low-carbon economy by:
- Leveraging national capacity and increased investment.
- Helping develop and strengthen climate-related legislation, policies and strategies.
- Supporting the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions and National Adaptation Plans to mitigate emissions and adapt to the adverse effects of climate change.
- Supporting the implementation of the 2017 UNFCCC Gender Action Plan, with a specific emphasis on climate education programs that target women and youth, as well as the capacity of national climate institutions to integrate gender equality considerations into climate policy and programming.
