Africa Climate Week 2023: Climate Action Africa delves into innovative climate action at the water-climate nexus
This year’s Africa Climate Week (ACW) in Nairobi, Kenya, from September 4-8th, 2023, will bring together representatives from government, businesses, international organizations, and civil society to address the critical challenges and fallout of the climate crisis. ACW will parallel the inaugural Africa Climate Summit, addressing the increasing exposure to climate change and associated costs.
Among the thematic tracks of ACW is a focus on land, ocean, food and water. The NDC Partnership will collaborate with the Netherlands and the International Fund for Agricultural (IFAD) to host a roundtable event examining Innovative Climate Action at the Water-Climate Nexus. The organizations invited Climate Action Africa’s Climate and Water Advisor, Arnaud Malan, to join the discussion. . The event will create a space where countries can learn from each other on how best to leverage water as an entry point for climate action.
CAA’s Mr. Malan will be joined by panelists from Rwanda’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, climate experts from Tunisia and Somalia, and the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation. The roundtable discussion runs on Friday, Sept. 8 at 13:30 EAT at the Aberdares Hall.
The event aims to engage development partners and raise awareness of the need for resources for water nexus projects and technical assistance. Funded by Global Affairs Canada, Climate Action Africa supports Sub-Saharan African countries to meet commitments to the Paris Agreement through short-term technical assistance based on demand at the local level.
